Placenta Offerings
From the very beginning of pregnancy, your body begins to make a placenta which is an organ that continually grows to support the new life inside you. As if creating a baby wasn’t amazing enough! The placenta is responsible for providing your baby with nutrients and oxygen, filtering away carbon dioxide and waste, creating hormones to facilitate their growth and transferring immunity from your body to theirs. It also acts as a pillow and adds protection to your baby while they grow.

In today’s rapid paced culture, it often can be expected that when something has served its purpose, all that is left is for it to be discarded. This is the most common treatment of the placenta after it has been born. However! There seems to be a wonderful shift in curiosity and reverence being shown toward the placenta once again. If you feel called to keep your placenta after birth, below are some ways by which you can choose to acknowledge, honor, and remember it.

Encapsulation $300
Bring your transition from pregnancy into postpartum full circle by replenishing your body with the nutrients remaining in your placenta. Encapsulation at Lunation Full Circle Care is done using a western interpretation of the steamed Traditional Chinese Method. Tincture and blood print are available as additions with this offering.
Tincture $50-$120
Most people who decide to encapsulate their placenta also opt for a concentrated tincture that they can utilize as needed for rough days, when they menstruate and even into menopause. The tincture is made from a small portion (roughly 1x1 inch) of raw placenta, steeped in high proof neutral alcohol for up to 6 weeks.
Color Print $60-$120
Capture the uniquness of your placenta with a vibrant imprint! This process is much like the blood print, but uses India ink instead of blood to achieve a colorful version. All prints are made with high quality watercolor paper, set with deacidification spray to help preserve the integrity and finished with your choice of a white or black frame.
*Note: For now, this option is for folks who are not planning to consume their placenta. But I am exploring food grade color options that would allow for colored prints before encapsulating. Stay tuned!
Burial Wrapping - Coming soon!
For families who want to take a more traditional approach in honoring their placenta, there will soon be an option to have your placenta prepared for burial. The placenta will be rinsed, dressed in herbs of your choice, wrapped in muslin fabric strips and placed in a freezer safe container for storage until it the burial takes place.
Blood Print $50-$100
Keep a reminder of the journey you and your baby went through in pregnancy by having a print made using an impression of your placenta and the remaining blood. All prints are made with high quality watercolor paper, set with deacidification spray to help preserve the integrity and finished with your choice of a white or black frame.
